Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, February 1510:00—11:00 AMBrickyard Nature Park
This will be the first Great Backyard Bird Count program for Crawfordsville! Each year, since 1998, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon Society, and Wild Birds Unlimited team up to perform the greatest citizen science research project in the nation. Birders all over the country come together to observe and count birds of all species, to better understand migrational patterns, bird behaviors, local populations, and more. Each year this information is tallied into a database that scientists, students, researchers, and interested birders can learn about species in their area or anywhere data has been recorded! During this program, patrons will join the Library Naturalist on a hike, or a stop at a picnic table or bench, to observe our local birds. This program is accessible to all. For those who wish to participate in this fun citizen science program, you can either follow the naturalist, hike your own trail, or simply record observations while sitting at the shelter house, everyone can participate. For those who hike, sturdy footwear and winter clothing are recommended. Observation sheets and supplies will be provided. Bring your birding binoculars and ID books with you to Brickyard Nature Park! All patrons must sign a waiver to join.
