Frida’s Roots: Mexico and Mexican Culture through the Eyes of Frida Kahlo

Thursday, May 27:00—8:00 PMMeeting Room A (Donnelley Room)Crawfordsville District Public Library205 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, IN, 47933

This presentation explores the life and times of Mexico’s iconic artist, Frida Kahlo, whose legacy only became apparent in the late twentieth century, years after her untimely death in 1954. Frida’s creativity transcended the confines of the muralist movement that her husband, Diego Rivera, had promoted and, in its place, brought a deeply intimate sensibility to the production of art. In this richly illustrated lecture, historian Michael Brescia will examine how Frida’s artwork provides a compelling framework for understanding the major periods in Mexican history.
